#Africa Agri-tech startup wins Seedstars Accra

Agri-tech startup AgroCenta has won the Ghana round of Seedstars World global early-stage startups competition, winning a place at the grand final in Switzerland next year where it will pitch for up to US$1 million in equity investment.

Seedstars World is hosting local events across Africa this year, and has already picked winners in MozambiqueTunisiaTanzaniaSouth AfricaUgandaEthiopiaNigeria, and Ivory Coast.

The latest event took place in Accra, Ghana last week, with eight selected startups presenting their ideas in front of the local jury panel.

AgroCenta was named the winner for its solution which empowers smallholder farmers through innovative technology. It will now join other winners from around the world at the Seedstars Summit in April, where it will pitch in front of an audience of 1,000 attendees.

Event-planning solution JamJar came second, with Kenko Doctor, an open marketplace with instant access medical histories, grabbed the last spot in the top three.

The eight startups pitched in front of a jury made up of David Hutchful from Bloom Impact, Patrick Quantson from Stanbic Bank, Klenam Fiadzoe from Sika and Fanny Dauchez from Seedstars World.
