Applications are open for this year’s edition of the Student Social Venture Programme (SSVP), which offers an avenue for improving the performance and participation of social ventures in Africa and will award the grand winner US$50,000 in prize money.
The competition, for which applications are open until Monday, November 30, is run by the Supporting Social Ventures of Africa foundation and supported by a number of local foundations, businesses and investors, including the SAB Foundation, Bertha Foundation, and Edge Growth.
Supporting Social Ventures of Africa says the SSVP was established as a response to the relative paucity of African teams at global social business plan competitions, and the lack of technical, financial and institutional support and sponsorship at their disposal.
The competition is intended to develop African social ventures that have the ability to create significant social change in the global context through financial and advisory support.
All participating teams are provided with support in connecting ideas and business skills, in order to produce scalable and robust social ventures with the ability to create significant social change in the global context.
The winner will walk away with US$50,000, plus advisory and mentorship support, while the top two teams will be guaranteed a spot at the Global Social venture regional round in London.
