Kenyan accelerator m:lab East Africa has been ranked among the top 10 university business accelerators in the world, by performance analyst firm UBI Global.

UBI Global is a leader in performance analysis of business incubators around the world, and helps incubators and accelerators become more efficient and competitive through a comprehensive benchmark.

UBI Global releases a yearly ranking of university business incubators and accelerators worldwide.  This year’s edition assessed 1,200 incubators and accelerators across the world.

The research defines a top university business accelerator as “an accelerator managed or formally affiliated with a university, that provides better value for the ecosystem and their startup clients than their regional or global peers.”

Top university business accelerator “stand out from average-performing accelerators with better outcomes on economy enhancement, access to funds and post acceleration performance indicators.”

Kenya’s University of Nairobi-based accelerator m:lab East Africa made this year’s top 10 list in 10th position – the only African university business accelerator to be included in the top rankings.

Disrupt Africa reported earlier this week, UBI Global also released a regional ranking focusing on Africa specifically. m:lab East Africa, Nigeria’s Technology Incubation Centre, and the Timbali Technology Incubator from South Africa were recognised as the best performing university business incubators in Africa.

2015 has been a busy year for m:lab, the accelerator having hosted a barrage of events including a Windows training programme; app development training; mobile money integration workshops; and cybersecurity training; alongside its usual incubation activities.
