#Africa Kenya’s Sote Hub holds Students Innovation Fair

Kenyan business incubator Sote Hub has held its third annual Students Innovation Fair, allowing student entrepreneurs the chance to showcase their product designs and presentation skills.

Disrupt Africa reported last year on Sote Hub, which aims to be a business incubator for graduates, exposing them to mentorship, training, and networking opportunities.

It was first established in Voi, Taita Taveta, with the goal of increasing the employability and entrepreneurial skills of Kenyan youth. Its ICT Schools Project has to date reached 6,000 students in 12 schools, while the hub presently hosts 15 startups.

The annual Students Innovation Fair allows students to showcase their products, as well as their marketing, sales and presentation skills. This year’s event took place at the Coast Institute of Technology, and was attended by John Mruttu, governor of Taita Taveta County.

During the fair, students showcased various products in sectors ranging from tourism and hospitality, banking, insurance, farming, design, and IT, with each stall visited by judges and awarded marks in different categories.

“The materials they have produced exhibit great innovative skills in our students which will propel them to become great entrepreneurs in future,” Mruttu said.

It was announced earlier this year that the Sote ICT project is scaling to Kwale County as part of its expansion strategy, with five schools identified to benefit from the project as well as working with youth out of school through the Kwale Biashara Centre.
