#Africa Lagos-based CapitalSquare to open 2nd co-working space

Lagos-based co-working space CapitalSquare is expanding its operations with the launch of the second space in the Ikoyi area of the city – The Studio.

The original CapitalSquare in Lekki was one of the pioneers of co-working in Lagos, opening its doors in November 2013 and targeting young, creative entrepreneurs.

The 270m² space can accommodate up to 30 people at hot desks and in private offices at any one time, excluding people in the meeting and training rooms, but the new Ikoyi space will be smaller.

Set to open in July, The Studio will be a 160m² co-working space with room for up to 20 at hot desks, dedicated desks, and in private offices. Its meeting and conference rooms have a combined capacity of 13 people, and though there is no dedicated seminar room the open workspace can be converted for events.

CapitalSquare founder Modupe Macaulay told Disrupt Africa it was time to expand as the Lekki space was reaching capacity, with the new space in the Dolphin estate in Ikoyi chosen for its central location.

“We are a bit more deliberate in the design of The Studio, based on what we’ve learnt about how people have been using CapitalSquare Lekki. It’s a more collaborative space that will promote interaction and engagement among our members,” she said.

“We’ve also tried to make it not feel “like an office”, and we’ve put that into consideration with the interior design.”

The exact date of the July launch is yet to be confirmed, but CapitalSquare will face competition in signing up members with the recent news that tech innovation hub Co-Creation Hub (CcHub) is to make co-working free.
