#Africa Nigerian e-commerce startup Gloo.ng launches two-hour grocery delivery service

Nigerian e-commerce startup Gloo.ng has launched a money-back guaranteed two-hour grocery delivery service, which it claims to be the first of its kind in the country.

Disrupt Africa reported last year on Gloo.ng, which started life in 2012 as BuyCommonThings.com but rebranded the next year. The startup specialises in delivering affordable supermarket goods to the doorsteps of clients on a same-day basis.

It has now launched the “Gloo.ng 2-Hour Express Grocery Delivery Service”, allowing customers spending NGN4,000 (US$20) or over to place orders before 5pm for guaranteed two-hour delivery, at the cost of NGN999 (US$5).

Chief executive officer (CEO) Olumide Olusanya told Disrupt Africa Gloo.ng had been built with the goal of “knocking the ball out of the park” for busy homemakers, with the two-hour delivery service the next phase of its execution.

“It is very unique because it is first in class. Nowhere in Nigeria does a busy homemaker have the convenience of ordering grocery items online with a money-back guaranteed two-hour delivery,” he said.

Olusanya said the startup was aware of the challenges involved in successfully executing on this new service, and had for now limited it to Lagos Island locations in order to give it the opportunity to fine-tune the service before rolling it out across its coverage areas.

“This was the same rollout approach we adopted for our three-year old, award-winning same-day service,” he said.
