South African mobile fleet management startup Payment24 has been selected to take part in the Startupbootcamp Smart Transportation and Energy accelerator in Berlin, Germany.

Startupbootcamp runs 14 different programmes in nine cities across the world, with a mentor and alumni network that covers more than 30 countries.

The Berlin-based Startupbootcamp Smart Transportation and Energy programme will begin on August 29 at the Rainmaking Loft startup hub, with the 11 selected startups receiving six months of free office space, EUR15,000 (US$16,500) seed funding and extensive mentorship from over 150 entrepreneurs, investors, and corporate partners.

At the end of the three-month programme, startups will pitch to more than 300 people, including investors and members of the press, at a demo day.

South African startup Payment24, which offers drivers, petroleum companies, and fleet owners a mobile platform to manage and monitor fuel transactions in real-time, is amongst the startups selected for the third cohort of the programme, which received hundreds of applications from 54 countries.

Payment24 was chosen for the programme after a two-day selection process that saw 17 finalists attend the Startupbootcamp Selection Days July 8-9 and pitch to over 60 mentors and programme.

“This year we received the highest number of applications since focusing the programme on the topic of smart transportation and energy,” said Startupbootcamp Smart Transportation and Energy managing director Tanja Kufner.

“We also saw an increase in the quality of applicants with many advanced startups joining Selection Days. This made for an exciting event for the startups as well as for the Startupbootcamp mentors and partners. We look forward to the upcoming months of hard work with the selected startups.”

The other selected startups are Estonia’s Autobahn, Belgium’s BikeMike and DroneGrid, the UK’s Eurosender, Denmark’s Faraday Motion, Germany’s Heuro Labs, Turkey’s Indoora, India’s Scoot and Zify, and Switzerland’s Travis.
