South African startup Yyeno has launched a platform that allows users to start conversations and share opinions at the click of a button.
Yyeno.com launched in beta in November last year, and now launches to the public with the aim of becoming the premier platform for discussing the latest news from around the world.
Yyeno looks to bring the small and big discussions often had between friends and family into the digital space, with all topics presenting the user with two options when it comes to each opinion – “Yes” or “No”.
Founded by brothers Kamo Moeng and Paul Moeng alongside friends Thabo Mkwanazi and Mogale Petje, the platform arranges conversations within categories ranging from business, to entertainment, to sport.
Aside from individuals, Yyeno also allows brands to gain consumer insight by starting a discussion and letting users share their opinions, Petje told Disrupt Africa.
“It also allows publications, bloggers, radio stations, or TV programmes to extend their questions regarding a particular topic online, and find out what their readers’, users’ and listeners’ views on a particular subject are,” Petje said.
Initially the idea for Yyeno grew out of frustration at the fragmented way discussions on Twitter and other online platforms were taking place, with the gap in the market for a discussion platform later reinforced by the termination of the commenting system on News24 and some other major online publications.
“It became clear that the user’s opinions were no longer part of the media narrative. From that point, we saw an opportunity for a third-party platform where users can have their say on topics that matter to them,” Petje said.
The project is currently self-funded by the co-founders, with the priority being to increase awareness and improve user experience.
