#Africa Somali delivery startup Gulivery adds e-hailing services

Somali startup Gulivery, which provides delivery services to restaurants, shops and e-commerce platforms, has added e-hailing functionalities to its platform.

Gulivery developed a mobile app that allowed people to order meals and groceries from restaurants and supermarkets, and have them delivered to their doors by the startup’s delivery partners.

The startup was launched in 2017 after husband and wife Deeq Mohamed Hassan and Sado Ali Baroot moved back to Hargeisa from London and realised there was a huge gap in the market. It swiftly expanded to the capital Mogadishu, and has now added e-hailing services, allowing users to access safer, cost-effective and more convenient transportation solutions.

Mogadishu has a population of three million, a number that is rapidly growing, and traffic is increasingly bad. Using Gulivery’s e-hailing solution, which works much like Uber or Taxify, users can order a moto-taxi and pay for it using their phone.

Its trained drivers will provide users with helmets for their safety, and all rides are insured.
