Indonesia’s social community platform Opini.id today announced the launch of its mobile app for Android and iOS devices. The app aims to help ease interaction between users, and increase the intensity of questions and opinion expressed by users in the platform.

It includes features such as push notification to help users stay updated on discussions they are part of, and keep track of the latest discussion on topics they are interested in. Opini.id app also allows users to share information through infographics, photos or videos.

“We would like to encourage … users to be more active in expressing their opinion through the mobile app. We hope that this app will make interaction more seamless, especially for young people, so that they can critically convey their thoughts about current issues,” said Frandy Wirajaya, CEO of Opini.id.

Founded in 2014, the Jakarta-based startup was born with the mission to build “a more critical Indonesia” as part of the country’s effort to embrace democracy after decades of being under the oppressive New Order regime. For the general public to be able to freely express and discuss their opinions on current issues is seen as a sign of a democratic country.

Through the online platform, users are able to raise questions that can be liked, shared and commented on by other users, building an environment for discussion and debate. Users can also rate opinions and comments, as well as choose between 400 available topics from politics, environment, to even lifestyle and entertainment.

“Opini.id does not edit or change the contents that are being posted to our platform, though we do supervise and control posts with racist, violent or pornographic contents,” explained Wirajaya.

The platform was the only one of its kind until the recent launch of Podium.id by youth activist organisation Indonesia Future Leaders, which is currently in beta mode.

Opini.id is under the management of Global Visi Media, a portfolio company of GDP Venture. It has secured 35,000 users, the majority of them being young people, and aims to have one million monthly active users by 2016.

“We hope that together with the increasing number of mobile users in Indonesia, Opini.id’s biggest traffic will be generated through the mobile app,” he said.

“Enjoy 2-for-1 tickets to Echelon Indonesia 2016 now. Do not miss out on Indonesia’s biggest international tech conference!”
