#Asia Alibaba Cloud partners with Infocomm Investments to bridge SE Asia and China’s ecosystem

The Chinese cloud computing business and Singapore-based VC and incubator have signed a Memorandum of Intent (MOI) to drive innovation in Singapore

The cloud computing arm of Chinese internet giant Alibaba, Alibaba Cloud has announced it has signed a a Memorandum of Intent (MOI) with government-backed VC and incubator Infocomm Investments Pte Ltd (IIPL) to ramp up innovation in Singapore’s tech ecosystem.

Asia-based startups will be able to leverage on Alibaba Cloud’s suite of cloud infrastructure services and support network to develop networking and big data intelligence solutions. In addition, startups will also gain access to the vast Chinese and Southeast Asia market through Singapore.

“This partnership seals the interconnectivity and open exchange benefits startups looking to the China market and Southeast Asia market through Singapore. It also augments our very vibrant ecosystem where startups can tap on Alibaba Cloud for tech support and explore other collaboration opportunities,” said Dr Alex Lin, Head of Infocomm Investments, in an official press statement.

Create@Alibaba Cloud Start-up Contest

Today also marked the commencement of Alibaba Cloud’s first global startup competition Create@Alibaba Cloud Start-up Contest (CACSC), organised in partnership with IIPL.

It is part of Alibaba Cloud’s global start-up program “Create@Alibaba Cloud”, which was launched in Singapore in April this year.

12 startups from Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia came to the CACSC Singapore held at BASH at One North to compete for the chance to win US$216,000 in cloud resource credits and compete in the global final at the Alibaba Cloud Computing Conference in October 2016.

The two winners were:

1. igloohome — a Singapore-based home automation company that has created a range of smart home devices, including the igloohome smart lock. It allows homeowners to grant access to visitors remotely via its mobile app. Its access solutions have been rolled out in the US, Australia and Thailand.

2. Havson Group —  the Malaysia-based entertainment technology company has range of original IP and free roaming multiplayer VR games.
