As reported, the streaming platform is partnering with state-owned Telkom to broadcast iflix content in its cable TV platform
Following HOOQ’s official launch, film streaming platform iflix on Tuesday announced its entry to Indonesian market in partnership with state-owned telco operator Telkom, confirming earlier report about it.
Currently iflix is only accessible on Telkom’s cable TV service IndiHome. In the future, the platform will be accessible by users of different telco operators, though the ‘best viewing experience’ will only be achieved through IndiHome.
iflix stated that they are going to focus on delivering local content, including original content that is produced locally for Indonesian audience.
According to a DailySocial report, iflix Indonesia CEO Cam Laker stated that Indonesia has always been an important market for the platform with its relatively young, Internet-savvy audiences who are already familiar with film streaming platforms.
iflix currently has 15 employees on ground and is planning to expand its Indonesian operation to 50 employees.

Indonesia has been seeing the entrance of foreign film streaming platforms, starting with Netflix. Its presence in Indonesia was greeted with controversy when the country’s film censorship agency condemned violent and pornographic content in the platform.
The controversy peaked when Telkom blocked Netflix access from all of its platform.
Fully aware of this issue, Laker stated that iflix is committed to follow all regulation, including setting up a permanent business venture in Indonesia and performing internal self-censorship on monthly basis.
Telkom’s Project Director for TV Video Business Joddy Hernady stated that one of the reasons that they chose to partner with iflix is because the company has proven track record of compliance with strict censorship regulation in its home country Malaysia.
