Indonesian P2P lending platform for social businesses GandengTangan today announced that it has raised an undisclosed seed funding from angel investor Mariko Asmara Yoshihara, Chairman of JAC Recruitment Indonesia.

“We are very pleased with the occurrence of this collaboration. As Ms. Mariko become part of GandengTangan family, we expect to improve GandengTangan’s service quality; as well as the impact that will be achieved by the company in the future,” said Chief Community Officer Darul Syahdanul in a press statement.

The startup also introduced the GT-Trust programme, which utilises the help of individual agents to “seek, nurture, and educate small and micro entrepreneurs” on how to get better loan and optimise their capital.

“By introducing the role of GT-Trust, we believe that this platform not only provide a friendly loan access, but also provide them with local trustees who will assist the micro and small businesses in growth
strategies and improvement of personal livelihood,” explained CEO and Co-Founder Jezzie Setiawan.

The startup claimed to have facilitated more than 700 lenders, funding 20 enterprises, and “creating social impact” for more than 3,500 people.

It has also fostered partnership with Islamic micro-financing institution Baitul Maal wat Tamwil and is looking forward to work with more micro-financing institutions in Indonesia.

GandengTangan was launched in 2015 by co-founder Jezzie Setiawan, Dhini Hidayati, and Nur Roni Dinurrohman.

But with the announcement of the company’s seed funding, it is also revealed that Hidayati is no longer with GandengTangan since late last year.

In a phone interview with e27, she cited “principal differences” as the main reason why she left the startup that she had built.

“We realised that we have different ways of communication,” Hidayati stated, adding that she no longer wished to be associated with GandengTangan.

e27 has reached out to GandengTangan for comments regarding this matter, and will update accordingly.
