Indonesian ride-hailing app Go-Jek today launched a new partnership with messenger app LINE Corporation at a media event in Central Jakarta.

Utilising LINE’s Business Connect Platform, Go-Jek users are now able to book rides from their LINE Messenger app.

Being the first partnership between both companies, Go-Jek’s Chief Brand Director Michaelangelo Moran stated the company expects to see a boost in user numbers for both apps.

“We are targetting 30 million of LINE users to utilise this app,” he said as quoted by Okezone.

The partnership aims to ease users of both apps in booking transportation. Users only have to add Go-Jek’s official account at LINE Messenger app and register their contact details. To book for rides, they just need to open a chat window with Go-Jek and press the ‘Order’ button inside. They will then received booking code and information.

However, Go-Jek noted for the time being users are still unable to use LINE’s free call service to call the drivers because not all drivers are using LINE messenger app.

The service is now available for Go-Jek users in Jakarta, Bandung, Denpasar, Surabaya, Makassar, Yogyakarta, Palembang, Semarang, Medan, and Balikpapan.

The platform is currently restricted to book Go-Ride, Go-Jek’s motorbike taxi service to carry passengers. For other services such as Go-Food or Go-Clean, users still have to use the Go-Jek app.

Go-Jek CEO Nadiem Makarim explained the reason behind the decision is because Go-Ride has the biggest market compared to all the other services, and the company would like to see the market grow through LINE.

“We are running a test [for the market] first,” he said.

Go-Jek currently has 200,000 registered motorbike taxi drivers as their partner, with more than half of them operating in Jakarta.
