On-demand motorbike taxi app GrabBike, a unit of Southeast Asian mobile transportation giant GrabTaxi, has announced the launch of its first door-to-door courier service GrabExpress in Jakarta in Indonesia.

With an IDR 5,000 (US$0.36) flat tariff promo until December 7, users can make use of the service in order to deliver packages weighing no more than five kilograms and sizing up to 75 centi meters from Sudirman, SCBD, Senayan, Thamrin, Kemang and Kuningan to various areas in the central and south Jakarta areas.

“Our customers expect to receive their packages as soon as possible even though it is not easy, considering Jakarta is one of the most heavily-populated cities in the world,” said Kiki Rizki, Country Head of Marketing at GrabBike and GrabExpress.

“GrabExpress sees this demand and offers safest and most reliable courier service that is accessible via smartphone,” she added.

Motorbike is seen as the most viable transportation option in Jakarta, which topped the list of the most-congested traffic cities in the world by British motor oil company Castrol.

Currently in beta, GrabExpress is looking to expand into other part of the Greater Jakarta area.

GrabExpress is a part of GrabTaxi, which recently secured US$400 million in funding from China Investment Corp. With valuation estimated to be over US$1.6 billion, it has also received funding from SoftBank, Tiger Global Management, Vertex Venture Holding, CIC and other investors in the past.

GrabExpress faces tough competition from other on-demand door-to-door courier service such as Go-Jek and Deliveree.
