Indonesian on-demand logistics startup Anterin began the new year by announcing that it is opening new R&D centre in Jogjakarta, as a result of its partnership with local software developer company TLAB.

Announced during TLAB’s seventh anniversary celebration on December 30, 2016, the centre will focus on systems and applications research and development for the logistics company.

Anterin CEO and Co-Founder Imron Hamzah revealed in a press statement that as “one of the leading software house in Jogjakarta,” TLAB was chosen in order to support Anterin’s national and international expansion plan. Currently available only in Jakarta, the company is looking to make their services available “nationwide” and eventually enter the Pakistani market in Q3 2017, by securing partnership with a yet-to-be-named local player.

Jogjakarta has been a favourite for local and international startups to build their developer and engineer team, thanks to the city’s talent pool and low operating costs. French gaming company Gameloft, e-commerce giant MatahariMall, and ride-hailing unicorn Go-Jek are some of the big names that have been reported to have offices in the city.

However, Go-Jek had recently “integrated and consolidated” its Jogjakarta team to its Jakarta offices.

As an on-demand logistics startup, Anterin once told e27 that the company’s strength lies in its ability to allow driver-partners to determine their own tariff, through an auction-based booking system.

TLAB itself has been known for producing several products such Juru.id, an integrated parking management system, and tiketapasaja, an online marketplace for events ticketing. Juru.id had been crowned finalist of state-owned Telkomsel’s startup competition NEXTDEV.
