Indonesian state-owned logistics services company Pos Logistik Indonesia (PLI) announced plan to acquire three startups in the field of enterprise solutions, mobile apps development, and big data analytics, according to a report by DailySocial.

A subsidiary of national postal service Pos Indonesia, the company dubbed the acquisition as part of its digital transformation plan. The details of the acquisition –the companies involved, the value– will be announced in Q3 2016.

“Pos Logistik Indonesia is set to perform digital transformation by investing through an acquisition in tech startup companies, to strengthen our position so that we will be able to serve our customers better, particularly in the field of e-commerce logistics service,” said CEO Yan Hendry Jauwena.

He also stated that the acquisition is currently on due diligence process, and that PLI will have up to 90 per cent shares in each of the three companies once the deal is finalised.

As PLI will only reveal the details of the acquisition later this year, Jauwena could only reveal as far as that the company is not going to acquire a “fresh-from-the-oven” startup, indicating that the startups will not be in its early stage. The move was based on the limitation set by the company itself as a state-owned enterprise.

Jauwena further explained the reasons why PLI decided to acquire startups working in these three fields, starting from enterprise solutions.

“There are enterprise solutions offered by well-known system providers, which have been used by big companies. But we chose this path because we want to self-adjust our system, so that it will be able to adapt faster with market demands. We decided to take it ourselves by investing in this kind of company,” he said.

Meanwhile, the mobile apps developer was chosen in order to provide ease for customers to use PLI’s services. As for the big data analytics company, it was chosen because Jauwena believes that strong use of data will drive Pos Indonesia towards a better future.

The state-owned enterprise also revealed plan to go for an IPO in 2020.

In January, PLI and Singapore-based e-commerce fulfillment company announced their partnership.

Pos Indonesia itself is a partner of e-commerce companies such as MatahariMall and Zalora.
