The US$330,000 seed round will be used to push the Smart Plate, a ‘physical bookmark’ that delivers mobile digital content, globally
Japanese startup Aquabit Spirals has closed a seed round of US$330,000 led by venture capital K&P Partners Co. Ltd.
The funds will be used to further development on the Smart Plate, a programmable intelligent card which delivers digital content from Near Field Communication-embedded and QR-code printed physical plates to a smartphone.
What this technology means is that offline merchants or venues can now deliver content, such as videos, maps, product information and entertainment to customers.
Aquabit Spirals is one of five startups selected by French mobile operator Orange for the third season of its startup accelerator programme, Orange Fab Asia.
It also made the top 10 of the Startup Launchpad at e27’s Echelon Thailand last week.
