Its acquisition of Japan-based hotel booking startup Tonight will allow travellers to make last minute hotel bookings in the country
Hong Kong-based last minute hotel mobile-only booking app HotelQuickly has announced the acquisition of Japanese hotel booking app Tonight.
This marks its 16th market entry, and will another 400 hotels to its roster. According to a press release, moving into Japan was a logical next step for the startup because it would open new possibilities for travelers within the region.
“Member feedback drives much of what we do at HotelQuickly, and our members told us Japan was one of the top three countries they want to visit this year,” said Christian Mischler, Co-founder & COO of HotelQuickly. “Recently relaxed visa requirements, as well as more affordable flights between Tokyo and our current markets is making spontaneous travel to Japan easier than ever.”

The integration of Tonight is expected to take several weeks; the app has to be fully translated into Japanese. It is currently supported in nine other languages.
“We’ve already opened deals at hotels in selected Japanese destinations, and will soon make our regional, last-minute hotel offers available to our Japanese members.” These mobile-only discounts are offered on rooms within a seven-day booking window.
Since its launch in 2013 by ex-Rocket Internet executives, HotelQuickly claims it has experienced more than two million Some 12,000 hotels and resorts in over 250 APAC destinations have partnered with the app to sell their room inventory to last-minute travelers.
