#Asia Looking to hire global talent for remote work? Here are 5 tips for you

You can find great talent around the world — it’s a matter of using the right techniques and resources

The 21st century’s modern advancements have changed the climate of the workplace forever. Technology has made it possible for employers to scout worldwide for the top talent to maintain their business. Remote work offers an economical advantage to employers and a personal convenience for employees.

If you’re thinking of taking advantage of hiring remote employees both locally and internationally, the below tips will help you to source the best talent:

1. Do your homework

Before you start posting job vacancies and scouting for the ideal remote worker, you need to do your due diligence. Do you know what the employer laws are in the country you intend to hire from? Are you aware of tax laws for employers/employees? Do you know which means you will use to pay your employees? Have you looked into using an international money transfer in addition to bank deposits or mailed checks?

Setting up a system for hiring and paying remote workers is necessary to ensure that you’re in compliance with labor laws within their country. Failure to do so could lead to hefty fines and penalties in the future.

2. Use local contacts

A source such as other staff, suppliers, partners, and vendors can help you to find the best talent in the area. Don’t be afraid to ask around about where to find the best remote workers. They already know your business and therefore will know exactly which platforms you should be using to reach the expertise you need.

3. Leverage technology

Hiring remotely is a lot more challenging than hiring in person. Face to face interviews is often how hiring managers can make their final decision. While you may not be able to conduct every interview in person, there are technological tools that you can use to help improve the selection process. Video conferencing apps, for instance, would be great for group or even one on one interviews.

4. Have a layered hiring process

Since you’ll be hiring overseas, you want to make sure that you’ve selected the best candidate. To narrow down the list of potential hires, having a layered process is ideal. For instance, having applicants complete an online application, resume, and references is the basic steps. Next, you might add a language test, and a general knowledge test to make sure that they understand the language, your brand, and what their responsibilities would be. As applicants are required to take these assessments, you can see based on the score who is best for your workplace.

5. Consider contract work

While you can hire remote workers as employees, small business owners have found that it is a lot easier to consider hiring freelance remote workers. The laws and stipulations for employees are a lot less stringent, and you also have the leeway to end the contract if the remote worker is not up to your standards.

As you can see, there are some differences when hiring a remote worker to hiring in-house. Be sure that you’ve established a system for not only hiring remote workers, but for managing them and motivating them from virtually anywhere. Hiring remote workers can be just what you need to take your small business to new heights – especially if you’re thinking of expanding into international markets one day.
