Beginning in Malaysia and Vietnam, the company says it can improve app performance by as much as 10x original speed

Malaysia FINAL

Today, in a remarkably close amount of time, I received a couple of pings via Facebook Messenger regarding various sorts of debauchery.

When I pushed the button to read the messages I waited for solid 3-5 seconds before the app opened on my phone. Now, this could be an issue in my phone, but if the problem is the app, all of us in Southeast Asia may be getting a speed upgrade in the near future.

The reason? Neumob, a Silicon Valley-based app acceleration SDK, announced its expansion into Southeast Asia, with the specific goal of speeding up mobile performance for apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, WeChat and Instagram.

It also is targetting home-grown companies like EasyApp Builder and Golden Screens Cinemas.

Malaysia and Vietnam will be the initial launch countries and the company will also open a point of presence in Taipei.

“By working with an app accelerator that is not only laser-focussed on the needs of mobile customers, but actually has a presence in the market where their users are, app developers can rest assured knowing they can easily tap into this lucrative, mobile-first market,” said Neumob CEO Jeff Kim in an official statement.

If a client installs two lines of code from its flagship product Neumob Accelerator, users gain access to the company’s acceleration network which can boost mobile app performance from two to 10 times normal speed.

Neumob does not necessarily pitch itself as a complete alternative to traditional website content delivery networks (CDNs). Rather it wants to be used in conjunction with CDN’s by taking a company’s Internet business over the final ‘mobile mile’.

“This is that final mile between the CDN’s outer edge and the user’s device, which happens to be where 70-90 per cent of the latency and lag in mobile apps occurs. Neumob is purpose-building mobile-first infrastructure for the mobile-first world in which most of the planet’s citizens live, work and play,” the statement read.

The Southeast Asia move is not the company’s first international expansion. It currently operates in 46 cities across North America and Europe.

Last October, the company raised a US$8.5 million Series A led by Accel Partners.
