LoveCycles, a women’s health tracking app in India, has raised INR 5 crore (US$740,000) from seed-stage investor Prime Venture Partners (formerly AngelPrime).

“We want to increase our presence in India and enable women to manage their health better. In India, women’s health has been a much-neglected issue, particularly menstrual health that is still a taboo in various parts of the country. We want to empower women with information and technology, which will help them take control of their overall health,” John Paul, CEO and Founder of LoveCycles, said in a statement.

“With this funding and the expertise of the managing partners at Prime, we are looking to expand LoveCycles’ accessibility in India by introducing regional language support in the next coming months,” he added.

Founded in early 2012 by Paul, Bangalore-based LoveCycles enables women to keep a track of their menstrual and physiological health via a mobile app. Using this tracker, women can record their monthly cycles, associated symptoms and trace out a pattern to help them manage their menstrual health better.

LoveCycles claims it has clocked more than 6 million downloads across 190 countries worldwide, and logs more than 1.2 million active users every month. The US, Brazil, Italy, Mexico, South Korea and Russia are among the geographies seeing the highest downloads.

Globally, the tracker supports 13 languages, including Hindi, and will soon support other popular regional languages in the country.

The app is available on Android, iOS, Windows Phone and Windows platform.

Menstrual hygiene is one of the most important, yet neglected health issues in the developing world. In India, approximately 70 per cent of all reproductive diseases are caused by poor menstrual hygiene. There are 355 million women of reproductive age in India who need mechanisms and structures in place to meet their menstrual needs.

Taking advantage of smartphone penetration in remote corners of India, LoveCycles aims to equip women to manage their menstrual health using a mobile phone. They can also use LoveCycles to increase accuracy of contraception and conception. LoveCycles helps women with the knowledge and support to understand how their fertility works and enables them to take ownership of their reproductive health.

Prime Venture Partners essentially funds early-stage startups in the fintech space. Last year, it forayed into the IoT space as well, with an investment in Nimble Wireless.
