Previously, Porter.id worked in street food delivery service with Porter Kakilima

Rumours have been going around in local startup community about Porter.id pivoting their business model, from street food delivery service to logistics service for small businesses. There is even a rumour that their partnership with Jakarta SmartCity is terminated due to the pivot.

Today, Porter.id Head of Marketing Jessica Hendrawidjaja, finally spoke up to e27 about the direction that the company is taking.

“We’re not pivoting, but rather evolving our initial business model which is hyperlocal logistics,” she wrote in an e-mail.

“Porter mission is to empower businesses, especially SMB, through logistics. We started with Porter Kakilima by working with street food vendors and eventually partnering with Jakarta SmartCity. Soon after seeing its success, we expand our logistics service to other types of businesses i.e. catering, home-based bakery, fashion boutique, florist, and other online shops,” she further explained.

Regarding the partnership with Jakarta SmartCity, Hendrawidjaja said that the startup is currently exploring new opportunities with the government of Jakarta.

“Porter Kakilima was a pilot project created to test the market and our business model. As a new player in town, we are still quite surprised by the attention that Kakilima is getting. We are currently in talks with one of the government agencies to rebrand Kakilima and establish a mutually beneficial partnership between Porter and the city of Jakarta. While that is being discussed, we continue providing logistics services to businesses in Jakarta,” she said.

As the country’s e-commerce sector grows, Indonesia also sees rapid growth of supporting services such as logistics and courier services. New players such as Anterin and Kargo came up to the scene, while state-owned logistics service Pos Logistik Indonesia had announced plans to acquire three startups to strengthen its business.

Porter.id does not seem to want to miss this opportunity.

“Moving forward, we’re excited to scale our operation and provide our hyperlocal logistics service to more businesses in more cities,” Hendrawidjaja said.
