Fitzgerald is a serial entrepreneur and has co-founded five startups since 2010

Property Guru, a leading real estate portal in Asia, has appointed Malcolm Fitzgerald as its new Chief Product and Technology Officer (CPTO), effective immediately.

Fitzgerald is replacing Ifor Evans, who quit PropertyGuru to join Lazada as CTO (Operations and Lazada Express) on January 11, a spokesperson of the e-commerce firm told e27.

The appointment comes close on the heels of PropertyGuru’s acquisition of Singapore-based real estate media company Ensign Media on January 13.

At PropertyGuru, Fitzgerald will lead about 100 staff in the product, user experience and engineering teams across Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. As the CPTO, he will also oversee product development, quality assurance and production support at the realty portal.

“We will build our digital DNA to embrace and exploit the exponential growth in digital technology, meshing our businesses into the wider digital fabric that extends to customers, partners, employees, and industries,” said Fitzgerald.

Previously, Fitzgerald was CTO at Australian IT architecture firm ANATAS. The company focusses on enterprise cloud computing. He is also a serial entrepreneur and has co-founded five startups since 2010 — Talkie, ChargeCuz, Shoppinghook, inPlace and HandbagsNThingz.

Talkie is an app modelled after the popular app ‘yo’, ChargeCuz is a battery monitoring app for children, and Shoppinghook allows people to get social media feedback on outfits while in the changing room.

inPlace used to be a large-scale online furniture e-commerce site and HandbagsNThing sold handbags online.

“Our goal is to develop great products that make the property process as easy as possible for our customers. I’m therefore delighted to welcome Malcolm to the team to spearhead this critical part of our business,” PropertyGuru CEO Steve Melhuish said in an official statement.

As for Evans, he was appointed PropertyGuru Group CTO in August 2013, after working at Misys in the UK as its Global Head of Development for Transaction Banking.
