West Jakarta-based online marketplace for handicrafts today announced that it has received an undisclosed seed funding from Global Founders Capital (GFC), Ideosource, and angel investor Budi Setiadharma.

Benny Fajarai, CEO and Founder of Qlapa, stated that the startup will use the investment to focus on team building, marketing and merchant acquisition.

“Our focus will be to add the number of merchants and to balance demand from buyers,” he explained in an e-mail to e27.

The startup is also looking forward to collaborate with more partners, especially the government and local creative communities.

According to Fajarai, each investor represents different values and network.

Apart from Qlapa, GFC has also invested in various online marketplaces for handicrafts such as Germany’s Dawanda and India’s Craftsvilla.

“We hope that GFC can bring us more value with its experiences [in developing] its portfolio,” said Fajarai.

Also investing in the startup is Ideosource, whose e-commerce portfolio includes consumer electronic online store Bhinneka, and Moslem wear and accessories online store Saqina.

As for Budi Setiadharma, he is the Chairman of Astra International, Indonesia’s largest automative distributor and producer. The company is a partner of Toyota, Daihatsu and Isuzu.
