When it comes to emerging markets like Myanmar, you can always count on Rocket Internet to launch services that connect people to goods — both digital and physical.

The German Internet incubator is already running various digital businesses in the country that include Work.com.mm (online career platform), Kaymu and Daraz (e-commerce portals), House.com.mm (home sales and rental platform), and Ads.com.mm (general online classifieds), in addition to Shop.com.mm (another e-commerce firm following an Amazon-like business model).

Now, its online hotel booking business Jovago has expanded into Myanmar, as it eyes the country as “the next big thing”, according to Deal Street Asia.

Jovago already has operations in Africa, Bangladesh and Pakistan. According to its website, customers can compare hotels from 24 cities, including Karachi and Nairobi.

JovagoThe service is available on the web as well as on mobile. Users can download the app from Google Play Store and Firefox marketplace. However, it is not available on the iOS platform yet.

Jovago will compete with GREE-backed Hong Kong-headquartered last-minute hotel booking company HotelQuickly, which entered Myanmar in October 2014, besides other international players such as Agoda and Booking.com.

According to the same report, Jovago claims to have 250 hotels listed on its platform and plans to list 1,500 by 2016.

Travel is set to become the next big thing in the country, especially with Myanmar seeing 3.08 million tourists in 2014 and expecting to see 4.5 million in-bound travellers this year, according to The Nation.
