Trade association Singapore Infocomm Technology Federation (SITF) today launched a new career advice platform aimed at upskilling Singaporean workers and training the next generation of tech professionals.

Named Talentguru, the website – created with support from government agencies SPRING Singapore, the Infocomm Media Development Authority, and the Employment & Employability Institute – is aimed at growing the local tech talent pool. Startups and related small businesses are among the intended beneficiaries.

Designed as a holistic tool for current and prospective tech professionals, Talentguru will allow users to find out what kind of expertise employers are on the lookout for, assess their existing skillsets, and undertake training to obtain new skills. Target user groups include students, current tech professionals, workers looking at switching career into the digital sector, and employers.

Talentguru users can create an online account and input information about their skills and experience. Using employment-focused data analytics tech from Singaporean startup JobKred, they can then compare their skills profile against industry demand. This way, they can explore relevant career moves and get guidance on possible options for further education.

SITF is also partnering with SPRING Singapore to develop an IT workplace internship program, and with Carnegie Mellon University spinout Proxor to create a certifiable skills assessment for Java programming.

Talentguru is aiming to sign up 10,000 users and 500 companies over the next three years. Over the same period, it expects to place 3,000 tech professionals and 1,000 students into jobs, as well as recruit and train 300 internship mentors within small businesses.
