#Asia Singtel launches new mobile payment product in SG’s largest retailer

//

The move is in step with Singtel’s desire to innovate and compete in a growing mobile payment sector

Singtel Dash and Tap

Singtel continued its mobile payment expansion in Singapore today by launching a new product called Dash Tap and Pay. The launch comes in conjunction with a partnership agreement with the city’s largest retailer, NTUC Fairprice.

Dash Tap and Pay opens in over 200 retail stores to Dash customers who can now simply tap their Android phones on the store’s reader to pay for goods or services. Retail brands include Cheers, FairPrice supermarkets and Fairprice Xtra markets.

“There are more than half a million customers who shop at FairPrice stores daily, and we are excited to offer them the choice of swift and secure payments with Dash,” said Gan Siok Hoon, Singtel’s Vice President of mCommerce, Consumer Singapore, in an official statement.

“Ultimately, when it comes to mobile payments, convenience and security matter the most to customers. To address this, we worked to improve the experience with the new Dash Tap and Pay feature,” she said.

The move is in line with Singtel’s recent corporate strategy of mobile payment integration. Last month, Singtel partnered with Lazada to build an e-commerce payment support system.

It also speaks to the growing importance for Singtel to compete with a mobile payment industry that is growing in Singapore. Apple Pay is coming to Singapore in 2016, fastacash raised US$15 million in July and is expanding all over the region and Comfort DelGro taxis integrated MasterCard’s mobile payment platform MasterPass last month.

Dash and Tap is a unique feature to the Dash programme because, unlike the original, users can now tap the scanner a la the Starbucks payment app. The original Dash requires users to enter in a business code to pay the given company.

To promote the new product, Dash users will receive 5 per cent cashback on all purchases made at Fairprice or Cheers until December 31.
