Singtel is developing a set of solutions for consumers to leverage technology at home to live more comfortably and safely, the Singapore-based telecommunications giant announced today.

These solutions will focus on home automation and safety, health and elderly monitoring, and connected cars, and will play into the Infocomm Development Authority’s Smart Nation initiative.

“We want to play a key role in smart, connected living and homes of the future through an intelligent open platform with a rich ecosystem of partners. We are in a unique position to do so with our extensive network infrastructure capabilities in info-communications, cyber security, and analytics across the Group,” said Kuan Moon Yuen, Singtel Chief Executive Officer of Consumer (Singapore).

Working with Singtel on these solutions are partners such as Samsung and NCS, an IT solutions provider and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singtel’s.

“This is an exciting journey in bringing to fruition Singapore’s vision of being a Smart Nation by enabling IoT in our homes. Our partnership with Singtel and NCS is synergistic, dynamic and, most importantly, built on a shared vision. Together, we will grow an open IoT ecosystem in Singapore,” said Sung Jeon Yong, President and Chief Executive Officer of Samsung Electronics, Southeast Asia Headquarters.

Field trials and solutions will be rolled out progressively from early 2016.

Details of Singtel’s focus on three key areas of its Smart Living Solutions are as follows:

  • Home automation and safety – allowing seamless connectivity and control of locks, cameras and appliances in the home
  • Health and elderly monitoring – measuring elderly activities, tracking personal health data through connected health devices like blood pressure monitor, glucometer, pulse oximeter, thermometer and weighing scale
  • Connected cars – providing driving analytics, basic maintenance information, vehicle diagnostics and receiving real-time information on traffic conditions.
