Meet the five startups that pitched for a chance to join Startupbootcamp FinTech’s acceleration programme

Startupbootcamp FinTech held a FastTrack pitstop in Taipei, Taiwan yesterday. The event, hosted by Taiwan Startup Stadium, was the latest in a tour of 16 locations across Asia Pacific including Bangkok (Thailand) and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia).

The FastTrack series offers startups a bite-sized glimpse into the value of a Startupbootcamp programme that has already taken in 300 startups from 13 cities around the world since the financial innovation accelerator was founded in 2010.

“It is Startupbootcamp’s first time in Taiwan and we are pleasantly surprised that Taiwan is full of entrepreneurial talent. Taiwanese VCs (venture capitalists) I spoke to said there are not many fintech startups. This may be true now but I think the trend will change in the near future,” said Steven Tong, Managing Director of Startupbootcamp FinTech.

At these FastTrack events, startups get the opportunity to connect with mentors, get feedback from other startups and meet the Startupbootcamp FinTech team. One-on-one sessions with local industry experts in the finance, investment, and entrepreneurial space will allow startups to also solicit advice on how to improve their products, business models and pitching skills.

We take a look at the five startups that pitched for a chance to be selected as one of 10 to take part in Startupbootcamp FinTech’s three-month accelerator programme in Singapore in 2016:

1. AirSig

The startup uses what it calls air signature authentication technology, allowing mobile phones to be waved in the air as a means to generate a supplementary password – in place of traditional pin codes.

2. ThinkTank

Its product Thinkcal is a smart calendar and currency manager to help customers be more informed about their travels and to manage the assorted currencies one encounters during these travels.

3. Kuchi

This startup aims to empower individual investors with machine learning-based stock analysis.

4. Qutrit Systems

Qutrit Systems is a machine banking system built with blockchain technology. It is a peer-to-peer platform for direct exchange of data and digital assets.

5. ADDWEUP

This startup provides a service for travellers to manage loose change accumulated from their trips. Many tourists accrue loose change during their travels that they have no use for when returning home.

So ADDWEUP provides a service at the Hong Kong International Airport that collects tourists’ Hong Kong Dollars and converts them for their own online payment accounts such as PayPal and WeChat Pay.
