Kuala Lumpur-based ride-hailing app GrabCar today announced that it will team up with Ippudo Malaysia to deliver the restaurant’s signature yee shang (traditional meals served during the Chinese New Year) to customers’ doorsteps.

The company will not only help deliver the foods at huge discounts at MYR8.88 (US$2.1) per box [from the current MYR48 (US$11.3) per box], but the food will also be accompanied by the God of Prosperity himself, who comes to bear good tidings, Mandarin oranges, and ang pao pockets.

The promo is valid only on February 3 — between 10 AM and 6 PM — for Grab customers in Malaysia.

To activate the promo, users have to enter the pick-up and drop-off locations in the app, select the special “Ippudo Yee Sang” icon, and pay with the debit/credit card and prepare to lo hei.

“GrabCar was introduced from the need to provide a convenient and alternative form of transport especially to those in high traffic areas during peak periods,” according to an official statement.

“We want to provide the convenience to our customers to still enjoy the important tradition lo hei (tossing of good fortune) with family and friends,” it added.

GrabCar is a subsidiary of Grab that specialises in car-sharing service. Its competitor Uber recently launched a lion dance delivery service in Singapore to welcome the Chinese New Year.
