2015 seems to be a relatively normal year for Singapore, according to Yahoo’s annual Year in Review, which reveals the top searches and shares on the online platform.
Here are the Top 10 search trends of 2015 for Singapore:
1. Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s passing
On the March 23, 2015, Singapore’s first Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew was announced to have passed away at the ripe old age of 91. His demise made international news, with world leaders like US President Barack Obama mourning the Lee’s death.

Singapore, being situated in Southeast Asia, has been affected by long periods of haze caused by forest fires started in Indonesia. The capital-H Haze was so bad that some of the events at FINA Swimming World Cup held in Singapore were cancelled, due to health threats imposed by rising PSI levels.

Held once every four years, Singapore’s General Elections this year — the country’s 17th — has been an increasingly closely-watched affair for of-age citizens.

Short for the Southeast Asian Games, the 28th SEA Games was hosted in Singapore this June 5 to 6. The last time Singapore hosted the SEA Games was in 1993, a good 22 years ago.
5. SG50
SG50 is a reference to Singapore and her citizens celebrating 50 years of independence. Many companies, like Kopitiam, for example, are commemorating by rolling out promotions and goodies for customers.
