#Asia Xiaomi is bringing its $30 fitness band to India next week

The price makes the Mi Band 2 one fifth the cost of a Fitbit and half the cost of Sony’s fitness tracker

Mi Band 2 FINAL

Xiaomi will be launching its super cheap fitness tracker, the Mi Band 2, in India next week for IDR1,999 (about US$3o). For the first few days the device will only be available on Xiaomi’s website.

The Mi Band 2 was initially launched in China in June and while the number was not broken down into specifics, the company sold 2.8 million units of Mi Band, Mi Band Pulse and Mi Band 2 over the summer.

The Mi Band 2 is like other fitness bands (except ridiculously cheap) but does have some nice upgrades over the original Mi Band.

The biggest upgrade is the addition of a screen, as compared to the original band that would track fitness directly into the app but looked like a standard bracelet.

The screen includes the time, a smartwatch notification system and with a couple taps users can check their heart rate and pedometer.

The company says the band is IP67 splash resistant — which means people can wash their hands while wearing the device, but it is probably not a good idea to go for a swim.

It has a 20-day battery life, connects via Bluetooth 4.0 and placed a heavy emphasis on its sleep tracking technology.

Mi Band 2 01 FINAL

While the features are nice, the biggest differentiator between the Mi Band 2 and other fitness trackers is the price.

At IDR1,999 (US$30) on Amazon India, it is one fifth the price of a the IDR10,499 (US$156) Fitbit Charge and half the cost of the IDR4,990 (US$75) Sony Smartband SWR10.

The Mi Band 2 works with Android 4.4 and iOS 7.0 or later.
