Chinese smartphones have caught the eye of Indian consumers, with Xiaomi leading the pack. This has contributed to Xiaomi’s return to a high growth path, with 23.2 million phones sold in the April-June quarter this year.

The Mi Max 2 will initially be available on ecommerce sites Flipkart and Amazon. Offline retail sales will follow soon. Xiaomi recently opened its own Mi Home outlets in India.

The Mi Max 2 was launched earlier in Malaysia, besides its home market China. But India holds the key to expansion for the Chinese smartphone maker, with 328 percent growth in the first half of 2017, according to Xiaomi India head Manu Kumar Jain, who spoke at the launch event today. Xiaomi is the number 2 smartphone brand in India after Samsung.
