Mattress giant Serta is suing Casper for patent infringement in a showdown between the country’s largest mattress brand and the leading startup attempting to disrupt it. 

Serta alleges that Casper copied its patented design in manufacturing its new Wave mattress and documents the similarities in exhausting detail over the course of the 40-page lawsuit.

Serta is asking for monetary reimbursement as well as a court order barring Casper from continuing to produce or sell the model.

“Plaintiffs have been and continue to be irreparably harmed by Casper’s infringement of the ’935 Patent such that money damages cannot sufficiently compensate for such irreparable harm,” Serta’s lawyers write in the complaint. Read more…
