#Africa Social haircare app Tress to launch at SMW Lagos

//

Social haircare app Tress is to launch globally today at Social Media Week (SMW) Lagos after a successful pilot period, aiming to help black women from around the world find hairstyle inspiration.

Tress was founded by three women software entrepreneurs from Ghana and Nigeria – Priscilla Hazel, Esther Olatunde, and Cassandra Sarfo – who during the Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST) programme in Accra, Ghana.

The app – available for download Google Play Store – will today launch globally at SMW Lagos during the Beauty of Tech panel, and aims to take a share of the global black haircare industry, whic is valued at over US$500 billion.

Tress allows women to discover new hairstyles, find out detailed information about hairstyles such as the exact products used, the name of the stylist, and the price range, and share their favourite hairstyles and receive compliments and haircare secrets from the community.

It’s surprisingly difficult to find accurate information about hairstyles,” said Tress chief executive officer (CEO) Priscilla Hazel.

“Many ladies routinely find themselves in the awkward position of walking up to complete strangers to compliment and inquire about their hair, or stalk social media accounts for inspiration as well as adequate information about the style.

Hazel said the vision for Tress is to be an active social network of black women thriving in all aspects of their lives, with the company keen to partner with like-minded organisations and individuals who are excited to help make this happen.
